It feels like the skies above our AI-frenzied world have darkened in the past month. Employees at Anthropic and Google started quitting, citing fears that the AI was spiraling out of control. After a string of agents started hacking websites, researchers used AI to discover vulnerabilities in critical systems, leading to large swaths of the […]

ImmigrationWhat do a Bollywood actor, a member of Congress, and Israeli directors have in common? It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke. The punchline, though, is that governments of India, the United States, and Israel, respectively, think they should be stripped of their national status. Bollywood star Imran Khan, nephew of Bollywood superstar […]

Andy Beshear, who is weighing a run for president, is one of the […]

If you were anything like me as a kid, trick-or-treating meant one, maybe two, pillowcases full of candy every Halloween. And as fun as collecting all that candy could be, the real fun began when I got home and dumped my winnings onto my bedroom floor. That’s when the sorting began. I had some very […]

Artificial IntelligenceWe’re living through an AI-fueled “Black October” and things are changing fast. Hackers are using AI to breach countless companies. AI tools have uncovered security flaws that could leave 70 percent of all websites vulnerable. Governments are scrambling to secure their sites. Banks, too. And because cyberhacks can hurt supply chains, some longtime AI watchers […]

For years, the Supreme Court has flirted with the question of whether religious conservatives may simply ignore laws prohibiting discrimination against LGBTQ Americans. The Court’s Republican majority frequently rules in favor of business owners and institutions that refuse to serve gay or trans people. But these cases often rely on ad hoc reasoning that seems […]

PoliticsThis story appeared in Today, Explained, a daily newsletter that helps you understand the most compelling news and stories of the day. Subscribe here. Vox isn’t typically in the business of covering elections in far-flung locales like the central Balkans. (No offense whatsoever to anyone from the central Balkans!) But on Sunday, an insurgent student-backed movement in Serbia […]

Midterm Elections 2026Democrats have been emphasizing lots of issues in the runup to the 2026 midterms: The Iran war. The state of the economy and healthcare. Corruption. And…hotness. Specifically, their candidates: The internet is awash in clips of Michigan candidate Abdul El-Sayed pumping iron and podcasters proclaiming that “America deserves a hot president” in a video interspersed […]

ELLSWORTH, Kansas — David Rankin has never been one for putting up campaign lawn signs. As a lifelong Republican in a town of 3,000 — where Donald Trump has won by 50-point margins since 2016 — he’s never seen a reason to put a candidate’s name in his yard. But recently, Rankin and his wife […]

Donald TrumpIf there is a Democratic wave in next week’s midterm elections, one of the biggest reasons for that will be young voters. While voters of all ages have soured on President Donald Trump and the Republican Party since his 2024 victory, polls show that the decline has been particularly pronounced among the young people who’d […]

Artificial IntelligenceThere are some days when there’s so much that needs to get done, I daydream about having a clone of myself. Between paying bills, life admin like renewing my driver’s license, keeping up with doctor’s appointments, and planning meals, it’s a lot. And that doesn’t even begin to touch the work that goes into making […]

Artificial IntelligenceOn the first day of its war against Iran, the United States killed 123 children when it targeted and struck an elementary school. America, ActuallyElection Day is almost here — but even after the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, the election won’t really be over. The vote count will take days or even weeks in some states. President Donald Trump seems certain to raise objections to results he doesn’t like — he’s already getting started in Alaska […]
