Press Hound

Follow the story.

What 39 US newsrooms, from left to right, are covering right now, and what they leave out.

About

One news day, many front pages

Every outlet decides what matters. Press Hound reads the feeds of 39 widely read American newsrooms every three hours and pulls out who and what each story is about, so you can see where coverage agrees and where it splits.

Rankings use the share of each outlet’s stories, not raw counts, so a newsroom that publishes a hundred stories a day doesn’t drown out one that publishes ten. The outlets are balanced across the political spectrum, each with its Media Bias/Fact Check rating.

Built for readers who want the whole story, not just one outlet’s version of it.

Method

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Collect

Every three hours we fetch each newsroom's public RSS feed and store new articles: headline, summary, link and time.

  2. Step 2

    Extract

Each article is tagged with up to eight keywords (people, organizations, places and topics) and how central each one is.

  3. Step 3

    Compare

Keywords are ranked by the share of stories that mention them, per outlet and on average, by day and week and by political lean.
